Rock Chronology #176: Teach Your Children

The year of Folk Rock continues with this hit from CSNY’s Déjà Vu album. This song was actually written by Graham Nash while he was with the Hollies, but the Hollies never recorded it. The song also features Jerry Garcia (from the Grateful Dead) playing pedal steel guitar.

“Teach Your Children” peaked at #16 on the US singles chart. Déjà Vu of course peaked at #1 on the US albums chart and went on to sell over 7 million copies in the US alone. The song also appeared on their live album Four Way Street in 1971 which peaked at #1 and sold over 4 million copies in the US. It also appeared on their compilation album So Far in 1974 which peaked at #1 in the and sold over 6 million copies in the US.
