Rock Chronology #207: A Whiter Shade of Pale

“A Whiter Shade of Pale”, Procol Harum, 1967.

Ok, while looking back over which Kinks songs to include in the Rock Chronology, I realized I may have overlooked one of the best selling rock songs of all time.  (Oops!) Some people might even say that the single for “A Whiter Shade of Pale” sort of sold over 10 million copies worldwide. (And those people would be factually correct.) 😉

Back in 1967, this song stayed at the top of the UK charts for six weeks. In the US it only peaked at #5, but that is only because it had absolutely no promotion! Not bad for a single with zero promotion really. If you’re going to make a one-hit wonder, then you might as well do it right.
