Rock Chronology #219: Changes

“Changes”, David Bowie, 1971.

“Changes” is another timeless song released by David Bowie that wasn’t really recognized until later. It comes from the Hunky Dory album which was released right at the end of 1971. The single for “Changes” was released right at the beginning 1972, and it peaked at #66 on the US singles chart.

However all of that changed just a few months later when Bowie released his Ziggy Stardust album. That album became an immediate success in the UK, and it made fans want to immediately go back and buy his older stuff. In fact Ziggy Stardust only peaked at #5 in the UK while Hunky Dory actually peaked at #3 a couple of months later. It would still be a few more years though until Bowie made his big break in the US.
