Rock Chronology #224: Peace Train

“Peace Train”, Cat Stevens, 1971.

“Peace Train” peaked at #7 on the US singles chart. This is the most rockin’ hit that Cat Stevens ever had. His other stuff is so soft, I hesitate to call it Rock. For that reason this is the only Cat Stevens song I am going to include on the Rock Chronology.

The same goes for a lot of other “Adult Contemporary” artists from the early 70’s like Bread, James Taylor and the Carpenters. Rock was such a huge phenomenon in the early 70’s that the “Rock” label was being put on everything. That included “Soft Rock” artists and Folk singers who really just wanted to make regular Folk music instead of actual Folk Rock.
