Rock Chronology #225: Have You Ever Seen the Rain?

“Have You Ever Seen the Rain?”, Creedence Clearwater Revival, 1971.

John Fogerty wrote this song as a reflection on what was going on with the band in 1971. They had achieved all sorts of success, but it had made them miserable (like rain falling on a sunny day). The content of this song was appropriately signaling the band’s demise. Tom Fogerty left CCR in 1971, which is the last year they released any significant hits.

“Have You Ever Seen the Rain” peaked at #8 on the Billboard charts (#3 on Cashbox), and it peaked at #36 in the UK. It comes from the album Pendulum which peaked at #5 in the US and #8 in the UK.
