Rock Chronology #227: Riders on the Storm

“Riders on the Storm”, The Doors, 1971.

Jim Morrison went out like a lion with “Riders on the Storm.” He died on July 3, 1971. This song peaked at #14 on the US singles chart later that month (#22 in the UK). Of course with Rock the album’s performance is far more important than the single. The album L.A. Woman peaked at #9 in the US, but has since gone on to sell over 14 million copies worldwide.

This song really is the Doors at their best. Of course I am a sucker for non-musical sound effects in songs (like the rain here).
